I have been working for Ankara University, Faculty of Educational Sciences, Department of Education Management and Policy as a professor. I have also been the head of the Department of Education Management for three years.
I have been conducting my studies on management ethics, organizational ethics, professional ethics, the ethics of teaching and education, academic ethics, the ethics of supervision, and public ethics since 1995. Because I attach particular importance to management and organizational ethics, among my studies on education management, I conducted a study entitled “Ethics in Education Management” in 1996 as my associate professorship research.
I have written two books about ethics published in Turkish. My book entitled “Organizational, Professional Ethics” has had its 5th edition, and the other named “The Ethics of Teaching and Education” has had its 3nd edition. As it is clearly stated in my CV, I have got articles about issues such as organizational ethics, psychological contract, and academic acceptance of ethical principles published in international journals. I have written a chapter called “Human Resource Management Ethics”, which is to be published. I have been conducting a study project entitled “Acceptance Levels of Ethical Principles by Academicians at Turkish Public Universities and Their Views about Peer Observance Levels” supported by Scientific and Technical Research Council of Turkey, together with two young researchers. Moreover, studies with other researchers on Respect in Relationships between Schools, Administrators and Teachers, Teacher Affective Effort, Whistle blowing, and Teacher Observance Levels of School Rules have still been carried out. Among other fields I am concerned with, there are use of power, authority and influence by managers and ethical dimensions.
I have been teaching “Management Ethics” courses in the doctorate program of Education Management and Supervision, and “Professional Ethics” courses in the thesis and non-thesis master’s program for about ten years. Over the last two years, I have been teaching “Professional Ethics” elective courses at the Department of Computer Teaching of our faculty. I have been the advisor of many non-thesis master’s degree projects, master and doctorate thesis on ethics.
At the same time, among my basic application fields, I can count Human Resources Management, Adult Training, and Staff Improvement and Training. I have been teaching “In-service Training” courses both in theory and practice in the undergraduate and graduate programs of our faculty for twenty years.
One of the important missions of our faculty is to contribute to staff trainings at in-service training units of public and private sector institutions. In this context, I have conducted studies such as determining education needs in more than 50 public and private sector institutions (education, justice, police department, military places, industries etc.), providing various ethics and management education, and assessing educational programs. I have acted as an advisor for projects of Creating Ethical Codes by primary school supervisors.
I was a local expert in a project called “Ethics to Prevent Corruption”, carried out with cooperation of Ethics Council at the Prime Ministry of Turkey and the European Commission, between 2007 and 2009 and I took part in ethics education of top executives from public institutions and ethics commission members of institutions as a trainer. Moreover, I was both a trainer and a material developer in “training of trainers” programs of ethics education in public. In addition, I have completed training programs of ethics trainers in six public institutions and contributed to training 150 ethics trainers. I have done particular work on “Specific Features of Ethics Education and Adult Learner’s Learning” during the organization of these trainings.
Over the last fifteen years, I have given conferences on public ethics, management ethics, the ethics of supervision, professional ethics, and the ethics of teaching in more than 20 institutions. I have also taken part in scientific councils of conventions and symposiums on public ethics.
